Been a while since I made a blog post. Went through a dry period but happy to be back with something new...in this case, another wrestling themed custom project. This one themed around WWE (WWF) and the classic Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels world title match from Wrestlemania 12.
Growing up, admittedly i've always been more of an NWA/WCW fan than a WWF fan but did watch both promotions among others. As far as WWF (World Wrestling Federation), my two favorite homegrown talents in the company were always Bret "The Hitman" Hart and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. At a time where the company was going into the post-Hulkamania period as Hogan had left for World Championship Wrestling (WCW), the WWF had moved into what they called the New Generation era and two of the guys they built this era around were Hart and Michaels.
This period, while not their most successful as far as business goes was very intriguing to me as a fan as the company which had always been known for mainly pushing big 300+ pound wrestlers as main eventers started to make a shift and push guys like Shawn Michaels & Bret Hart as their top stars. These two aren't big muscled out guys like we were used to seeing at the top but were definitely better in the ring with the technical wrestling ability of Hart and the high flying, high impact style of Michaels....two styles of wrestling that i've always preferred which is probably why i've always been into old school WCW, ECW, Japan, & indy wrestling since those styles have always been highlighted.
This project was specifically inspired by their classic Iron Man world title match from Wrestlemania XII in 1996 which Pro Wrestling Illustrated voted as match of the year. These two always had an interesting feud (their real life backstage heat with each other at the time may have contributed and gave it even more realism) but their iron man match was a wrestling clinic. So one day I decided to brainstorm and come up with a shoe theme for each wrestler inspired by the match.
Bret Hart
The Bret Hart shoe features the classic pink and black design that is synonymous with the Hitman. It also features the skull logo which can be seen on the torso area of his singlet and word "Hitman" which is seen on the side of his tights.
Shawn Michaels:
Originally I wanted to do HBK's red tights design but went with the gold/silver//white design since it was what he wore at WM12 and I wanted to stay with that theme.
Also of note, I threw in the WWF logo from the Attitude era on the tongue tags just for fun.
I've been sitting on this particular theme for a few months and was pretty excited to finally do it. May accept some orders for these but it would be a very limited amount.
