Customer Spotlight: "Jean Michel Basquiat"

Jean Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) is one of the most iconic artists in history and was one of the biggest to come out of the New York art scene in the 80s.  His legacy is still felt in the art world to this day and earlier this year, one of his paintings sold at an auction for a whopping $110.5 Million.

Recently, one of my long time clients contacted me for a custom shoe themed after the famous artist.  The idea was to create something that would be a take on the unique style of Basquiat and include his signature crown logo:

The base shoe for this project was the Cyber Monday Air Jordan 3s:

And here is the finished product:

I never like to do straight copies of anyone else's work so instead what I did with these is borrow elements from different works of his (works such as "Dustheads" and "Philistines" to name a few) and kind of mixed them up in bits and pieces along with the signature crown logo scattered throughout.  Another thing I did on the right shoe was add sort of a partial portrait of Basquiat's face (some of the signature hair style can be seen if you notice).  Had a lot of fun with these since it was something very outside the box.  This pair is a 1 of 1 but for a custom theme of your own, be sure the contact via the website: www.ecentrikart.net.

Also, be sure to check out the work of Jean Michel Basquiat here.
